The Intensive English Program (IEP) focuses on academic English and helps prepare students linguistically, academically, and culturally for their program of study. Working with beginning to advanced English speakers, the KU Applied English Center (AEC) tailors curriculum to meet students' needs.

Our IEP has five levels of English from beginning to advanced, with courses focusing on listening, speaking, reading, writing, and grammar. Students enrolled in levels four and five may be on the KU Fast Track and also enroll in other KU courses.

  • Levels 1 to 3 = Full-time English study
  • Level 4 = Part-time English study + 3 KU credits (1 KU course)
  • Level 5 = Part-time English study + 8 KU credits (2 KU courses)

KU Fast Track Program

Do you want to earn college credits from the University of Kansas (KU) while working on your academic English? Your English language courses can help you meet KU requirements and earn credits toward your degree.

Depending on degree, you may earn up to 20 KU credits while enrolled in AEC courses. English courses are worth 9 credits in KU electives from the KU College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, School of Business, and School of Architecture and Design. IEP classes count for the KU College of Liberal Arts and Sciences' language requirement.
